Between the bubbles, splashing, coos and giggles, bath time has quickly become our favourite time of day.
I’m not sure that we have quite got the jist of a relaxing bath just yet (we much prefer to create tsunami’s and dunk poor old Tez the turtle) but it definately gives us some precious family time.
Isla was about 10 days old when she had her first birth as it took that long for her umbilical cord to fall off. Prior to that we had been top and tailing her but nothing was quite as special and memorable as seeing her in a big tub for the first time. Here is just 1 of the 9753721 photos I took of her first time in the bath –
Since then, in the past 5 months we have tried a few different bubbles and washes and we now have our firm favourites. Click the product name to shop.
This is a 99.8% natural formula of coconut oil, sunflower oil and soy proteins which gently cleanse your babies skin. I squirt 3/4 full pumps into the stream of warm water which creates enough bubbles for some fun. It is pediatrician tested with no phthalates, parabens, petrolatum, or SLS. It smells so gorgeous and fresh and leaves Isla’s skin feeling soft and silky.
I felt pretty ridiculous buying Isla shampoo considering she’s a teeny baby but she actually has hair and is a sass queen so she needs such luxuries! PSML. Joking aside, this stuff smells incredible and does a fab job really quickly – It spreads vastly and is washed out really easily. It’s suitable for newborns and is really gentle on Isla’s scalp. Isla hasn’t suffered with cradle cap and I wonder if this shampoo is a contributing factor as it helps to prevent build up.
We also have our favourite bathtime accessories –
These were brought for us as a gift and they are so handy. Being honest, it’s not something I would have thought to buy so I’m really glad that someone else had the ingenious thought! They are perfect for getting in those hard to reach places, under the neck, in between the rolls.. haha! They are super soft and wash really nicely ready to be used again.
This is a really cute cotton hooded towel with bear face and ears. It’s perfect for wrapping Isla up after bathtime to keep her snug and warm! It is terry cotton so it’s not super super soft but it’s perfect for drying Isla off quickly and effectively. I find sometimes that when the material is too soft it doesn’t absorb the water as well so this is the perfect combo of softness and absorbability. Isla has used this from newborn and it still looks as good as new, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still about when she is walking and drying herself!
We have used this kit after bath time since day 1 and I can’t fault it one bit. It contains a digital oral thermometer, toothbrush, brush and comb, scissors, nail clippers, 2 emery boards and a nasal aspirator – all of which I have used (excluding the toothbrush) at some point since Isla was born. Her nails grow at an impeccable speed and unless they are trimmed regularly they are considered a dangerous weapon! I find the best time to do this is after the bath when they are nice and soft. The hair brush is also great at taming her hair after it has been washed and the thermometer is a no-brainer – it’s a must have for those first time parent ‘she looks abit peaky’ moments.
I hope you all enjoy bath time just as much we do!
